Vic: Nationals attack Labor over refusal on raceway repairs
The National Party has attacked the state government over its refusal to pay for repairs
to a sewage-affected raceway in Victoria's north-east.
National Party leader PETER RYAN says the cancellation of today's round of the Australian
Super Touring Championship at Winton motor raceway, near Benalla, because of the problem
is potentially damaging to the rural Victorian economy.
He says his representations to the state government to avoid the cancellation have
been fruitless.
Mr RYAN says the raceway generates $25 million to $40 million a year for the economy
of the state's north-east and attracks 250,000 visitors a year.
However, a spokeswoman for Premier STEVE BRACKS says the touring car race at Winton
attracts just 2,000 people and can't have the same prioririty as some other matters.
