FED: Chinese officers could be arrested during capital torch leg

Attorney General ROBERT McCLELLAND says China's track-suited guards will play no part
in security during the Canberra leg of the Olympic torch relay.

He's told ABC radio our federal police will be in charge .. and the Chinese officers'
only role will be to light the flame if it's put out tomorrow week.

TED QUINLAN .. head of the Canberra relay taskforce .. says the so-called torch attendants
could find themselves under arrest if they lay a hand on anyone.

The AFP have been given extra powers to search people and seize prohibited items like
eggs and paint bombs .. while the torch is in the capital.
